Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany hailed victory over Manchester United as a "beautiful day".

City humiliated United 6-1 at Old Trafford.

"It was a beautiful day," declared Kompany. "We made history but it is only three points and now Wolves is the important game.

"We respect United; a defeat like that can happen to anyone but we were focussed and sharp and we always felt it would be our day.

"When we were under pressure in the opening period we did all the right things as a team. Our fans deserve this chance to celebrate."
