Vincent Kompany will not be back in action for at least four months according to former Belgium physio Lieven Maesschalck.
The Manchester City captain has undergone surgery for a torn muscle in his thigh after sustaining the injury in last week's Champions League semi-final clash with Real Madrid.
Kompany, 30, has already announced that he will miss this summer's Euro2016 tournament for the Belgium national team and is likely to be sidelined until at least early September.
Maesschalck told Belgium's Radio 1: "I saw Kompany on Thursday. It was very clear - he has a complete tear of the slender thigh muscle.
"He has been operated on yesterday and it will take about four months to get match-fit again."
