Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany can't put his finger on their poor form in the Champions League.
City still have a chance despite taking just two points from four matches so far and captain Kompany has demanded an improvement.
He said: "I guess there's a big contrast between our Champions League performances and what we've done in the league so far.
"We need to make sure our Champions League performances get better. If I knew the answer as to why, we probably wouldn't be where we are."
A victory over Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid would ensure City at least go into their final match at Borussia Dortmund with a chance of qualifying.
