Man City signing Castillo: I should've listened to Elano sooner

Nery Castillo admits he should've listened to new Manchester City teammate Elano when he first signed with Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Mexican said: "He took me on one side and said 'things are very difficult here, it is going to be very tough for you'.

"It was a warning - and he was not wrong."

The 23-year-old Mexico striker fell out with coach Mircea Lucescu in only his eighth game when he refused to hand over the ball to regular penalty-taker Cristiano Lucarelli when Donetsk were awarded a spot-kick during a Ukrainian league game.

Desperate to break his duck after drawing seven blanks, Castillo took the penalty himself, missed, was immediately substituted and never played for the club again.

Little wonder he now wishes he had joined City when Eriksson made his first approach upon his installation as Blues boss last summer.

"I have been happy since the day I arrived here," he said.

"I have seen the style of training and the enjoyment get out of it. It is a total contrast to what I have been used to over the last few months and I just want more of it."
