Man City's Onuoha joins Sunderland on loan

Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha has joined Sunderland on a season-long loan.

The 23-year old centre-half has been with City for his entire professional career but with plenty of defensive quality being brought in by Roberto Mancini, saw this is as a good chance to get some regular first team game time.

Black Cats Steve Bruce is a known admirer of the former England U21 international and was delighted to have snared him for the season.

"Nedum is a modern-day defender," Bruce told the club's official website.

"He's big, quick and powerful - a really good defender, who, despite his age, has already played over 100 games. He has all the attributes a modern defender needs.

"Nedum is someone I've tracked for a long time so it's great to get the deal done to bring him here. He can play anywhere across the back line, too, so it's great to have added that flexibility and some strong competition for places."
