Man City's Nasri, Newcastle's Ben Arfa frozen out of French squad by Deschamps

Didier Deschamps announced his France squad for the upcoming friendly against Japan and a crucial World Cup qualifier with reigning champions Spain with the shock absentees of Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasir and Newcastle United star Hatem Ben Arfa.

The French Football Federation imposed a three-match ban on Nasri for his conduct at Euro 2012 but was expected to be recalled having now served his ban.

World Cup-winner Deschamps told Sky Sports: "I didn't think it was the right time to call him back, I prefer to wait a while."

Even with these noticeable absentees, the French squad does have several Premier League stars with Arsenal duo Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud, Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, Manchester City's Gael Clichy, Newcastle's Yohan Cabaye as well as Manchester United defender Patrice Evra who himself has had trouble in the past with the French Football Federation.

France squad: Hugo Lloris, Steve Mandanda, Mickael Landreau, Christophe Jallet, Mamadou Sakho, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Gael Clichy, Patrice Evra, Laurent Koscielny, Adil Rami, Mathieu Debuchy, Etienne Capoue, Maxime Gonalons, Blaise Matuidi, Yohan Cabaye, Lassana Diarra, Moussa Sissoko, Karim Benzema, Olivier Giroud, Bafetimbi Gomis, Mathieu Valbuena, Franck Ribery, Jeremy Menez
