Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has lauded the quality of teammate David Silva following his performance in Thursday night's 2-0 win over Red Bull Salzburg in the Europa League.

The former Valencia winger produced his best showing since joining City in the summer and his presentation was not lost on Kompany who can see him getting better and better the more he plays for his new club.

''He is an amazing player - and like every foreign player he needs time to settle in the Premier League," Kompany told ESPN.

"We've seen in training he's an amazing player - he'll be very important for us at times this season.''
