Manchester City's Curtis Anderson has fired the England under 17 side to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
Following a 0-0 stalemate during a round of 16 clash against Japan, Anderson saved Hinata Kida's spot-kick and then went on to score the next himself.Steve Copper's Young Lions squad are now set to face the United States in the quarter-finals.
The Young Lions had to make do without arguably their best player Jadon Sancho for the game, who controversially returned to Borussia Dortmund after the side ensured progression from the group stages.
Japan proved to be competitive opponents and were constantly attacking. As the game progressed the Young Lions began to wane in the heat and Japan took full advantage.
The Asian nation came close to making a breakthrough through Kubo and striker Taisei Miyashiro. Anderson's goalkeeping however was on point on the day and they could not find the back of the net.
