Man City rival Middlesbrough for Spurs keeper Robinson

Manchester City are chasing Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

The Telegraph says City are keen on bringing Robinson to Eastlands in the transfer window but could lose out to Middlesbrough.

Spurs are thought to be ready to offer the 28-year-old Robinson in a package deal to land Boro winger Stewart Downing who has signalled an interest in moving to the north London club.

Middlesbrough are in the market for a new goalkeeper with Mark Schwarzer, 35, out of contract in the summer and as yet, unwilling to sign a fresh deal at the Riverside.

City, however, could provide Robinson with the chance to become reunited with ex-England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson.

The City coach is also in the hunt for a new goalkeeper and, despite being impressed by Joe Hart's performances this season, is looking for a more experienced No 1 to take his place.
