Manuel Pellegrini believes his Manchester City team is returning to the form that won them the Premier League title last season.
City conceded early to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light but responded to eventually win 4-1 to remain second on the table.
A brace from Sergio Aguero and goals from Stevan Jovetic and Pablo Zabaleta sent City on their way which prompted words of praise from their Chilean tactician.
"I think we are returning to the performances we had last season," said Pellegrini.
"I think if we continue playing this way of course we will fight for the title, but I think three or four other teams will also be there."
City will now prepare for Saturday's home meeting with 11th-placed Everton who drew 1-1 with Hull City on Wednesday night.
