Man City pro deal for Mentel

Manchester City have handed a first professional contact to goalkeeper Filip Mentel.

The 17-year-old Czech shot stopper played for the Premiership club's academy side last season and has clearly impressed the City coaching staff.

Mentel's agent Emil Kovarovic confirmed his client has been handed a two-year deal as h looks to make an impact on the City first team in the coming seasons.

"Mentel has been offered a professional two-year contract," Kovarovic told SITA.

"It is a big chance as well as a big call for Filip. He is expected to join the first team's training from July.

"In 2006/07 Filip was regularly playing for the Under 18 Manchester City team and City, also thanks to his performances, managed to win one of the four groups of the competition in his age category.

"All people from the club have been satisfied with him and therefore he was given a chance to prepare himself with the first team at the end of next season.

"Filip has potential to gain ground in the first team too."
