Manchester City claim they won't be dragged into an auction with Chelsea for David Silva, reports the Daily Mirror. Debt-ridden Valencia are trying to spark a bidding war between the two moneybags clubs to drive up the asking price for the Spain winger to £30million.
City value Silva at around £26million and do not want to fork out exorbitant prices after paying over the odds for the likes of Roque Santa Cruz and Joleon Lescott.
The Blues have been given permission to speak to Silva and are prepared to offer him a staggering £160,000-a-week to come to Eastlands.
Despite these riches, the World Cup star is understood to have reservations about joining City because they cannot offer him Champions League football, unlike Chelsea.
