Manchester City were willing to meet Liverpool's asking price for Fernando Torres, it has been revealed.
Liverpool chiefs are confident Torres will now stay at Anfield after showing the door to Rafa Benitez.
The Sunday Mirror says Manchester City were the only club willing to meet Liverpool's £60m valuation.
However, City were told by Torres's advisers he could not move to a club unable to offer Champions League football next season.
