Manchester City have been informed they can sign Fluminense striker Fred.
The Mirror says Flu have privately indicated they are ready to do business if there is a serious offer on the table for the 29-year-old who looks certain to lead Brazil's attack at the World Cup finals next year.
The key for Fluminense is the player's age and contract length - which mean they would willingly accept around £7m for a striker they signed for no fee when he became a free agent after refusing to return to France from Brazil.
His age though, will count against him, with City concerned about spending significant sums on a player who will turn 30 just as the next Premier League season gets into full swing.
