Man City no.2 Platt insists players have a huge hunger for success

Manchester City assistant David Platt is confident that the players in the squad will remain focused following the 6-1 hammering of Manchester United on Sunday.

City were in dreamland after beating their derby rivals at Old Trafford by such a massive scoreline to put them five points clear on top of the table but Platt knows very well that those responsible for putting the club in such a strong position are determined to achieve success this season.

"There is a hunger there for success, I think you see that," said Platt.

"There is a belief in them that they can do it and the manager is greedy, he wants everything.

"All he knows is winning and all he wants to do is win."

And Platt added that manager Roberto Mancini will be intent on going as far as possible in the Carling Cup ahead of their meeting with Wolves tomorrow night.

"It is something that will be at the back of his mind, to make sure we don't let what happened at the weekend take away focus on what the position in hand is - and that is progress in the Carling Cup," he addd.

"I couldn't believe how disappointed he was last year when we got knocked out at West Brom. "
