Man City move to beat Chelsea for Bolton's Cahill

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is keen on Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill.

The Daily Star says Mancini hopes to off-load Carlos Tevez, Wayne Bridge and Nedum Onuoha this month.

He wants Roma midfielder Daniele de Rossi and Newcastle's Cheick Tiote, and aims to hijack Cahill's proposed move from Bolton to Chelsea.

He is under pressure to meet UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations, but insists he must keep on spending if City are to become a major European force like Real Madrid and Barcelona.

He said: "Real and Barca have been the best teams in Europe for a long time and they still buy players - so that is what we want to do as well."
