Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell is keen on a return to Everton.
Despite not getting the opportunity to stake his claim on a first-team place City will want to claw back most of their £13.2 million outlay on Rodwell, who still has three years remaining on contract.
A source told the Mirror: "Jack is a Southport lad, so a return to Everton would appeal to him - not least because he would be suited to manager Roberto Martinez's style of play.
"But he also has a lot of time for new West Brom boss Alan Irvine, who was one of his coaches at Goodison.
"The most important thing, though, for Jack is getting the chance to play first-team football week-in, week-out. That's what he needs at this stage of his career."
