Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell admits swotting up on Manuel Pellegrini before his appointment as new manager.

Rodwell admits the Chilean has driven the players hard in preseason training.

"I can only judge from what I've seen so far and he's stern and he makes us work hard, which is probably what we need.

"When his name started to be linked with the club, I looked into it a little bit more but I knew about him. I watch as much football as I can and he's done great jobs at the clubs he's been at, especially at Villarreal and taking Malaga to the Champions League."
