Man City midfielder Gundogan has car vandalised with 'political motive'

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has had his car vandalised.

Gundogan sparked widespread anger in Germany when he met Turkey's head of state Recep Tayyip Erdogan in London last month.

Arsenal's Mesut Ozil, similarly German born to Turkish parents, was also at the meeting.

German police have now revealed that Gundogan's Mercedes GLE was trashed near the national team's hotel in Cologne on June 7.

The luxury motor had its windscreen smashed and bodywork damaged.

A German police spokesman said: "We can't rule out a political motive for this incident.

"We have studied film from security cameras."
