Man City, Man Utd head-to-head for Mangala

Manchester United and Manchester City are going head-to-head for Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala.

The Manchester Evening News says City, badly in need of a new centre-half, remain keen on Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala - but could now face a battle with the Reds for the France star.

Manuel Pellegrini came close to landing the no-nonsense stopper in January but the club, determined not to be held to ransom, refused to pay an exorbitant asking price of £37m.

United have a list of targets they feel are within their reach and are ready to hand it to David Moyes' successor to make his own selections.

And it would come as no surprise if Mangala is on that list.
