Manchester City have endured a tough contest to scrape through to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup. Taking a 2-0 lead into the second leg at Aalborg, City looked a certainty to progress when the Danish outfit had yet to pull a goal back 84 minutes into the match.
But a minute later, Luton Shelton gave AaB some hope and a 90th minute penalty broke the hearts of Mark Hughes' men.
Neither side could gain an advantage in extra-time meaning the second shoot-out involving an English club in European competition within a week was under way.
Aalborg's scorer of the late penalty, Michael Jakobsen stepped up for the first spot-kick and held his nerve yet again to give the home side a great start.
However, all four of City's penalty takers (Ched Evans, Elano, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Richard Dunne) were able to convert as Thomas Augustinussen had his saved by Shay Given as did Shelton, giving the game away to the visitors 4-3 on penalties.
