Manchester City have made a £4 million bid for Nancy fullback Mikael Chretien.

The Sunday Mirror says Chretien is wanted by new City boss Mark Hughes as he looks to further strengthen a squad that has already been bolstered by the £19m arrival of Brazilian striker Jo and the £5m midweek capture of Tal Ben Haim from Chelsea.

Nancy are ready to cash in on the 24-year-old defender and Spanish club Real Betis have already lodged a £3m bid.

But City have countered with a better offer and the Blues are hoping to be given permission to finalise personal terms this week.
