Man City lodge appeal for Kompany's red card

Manchester City have lodged an appeal with the Football Association to have Vincent Kompany's red card rescinded.

The City skipper was sent off in the 12th minute of yesterday's FA Cup third round loss to Manchester United for a tackle on Nani and the Eastlands outfit have decided to contest the three-match ban he subsequently received.

"City have today lodged an appeal with the Football Association relating to the red card issued to Vincent Kompany during Sunday's FA Cup tie with Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium," read a statement released on the club's official website.

"The FA have confirmed that a hearing will be held ahead of Wednesday evening's Carling Cup semi-final first leg at home to Liverpool."
