Man City legend Corrigan: Hart cannot relax with Caballero pushing him

Manchester City legend Joe Corrigan feels Joe Hart must take his game to a new level to avoid the axe.

Corrigan says Hart dare not let his standards slip, following the arrival of Willy Caballero.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "I think it was a good move to get a very good goalkeeper, who won't come as a back-up.

"He will be thinking he wants to get in the team - and when he does, he will want to stay there."

Hart lost his place to Costel Pantilimon after a series of high profile errors last season - but soon reclaimed his spot.

"With no disrespect to Pantilimon, when he came in last season, he did okay - but in my opinion he didn't give you the belief he could it for the long term," said Corrigan. "I think that had a big bearing on how quickly Joe came back. Pantilimon didn't do much wrong, but City have looked and said they need two top class goalkeepers.

"It is up to Joe if he keeps his place.

"I think Caballero will push him on. I was fortunate when I was playing to have that competition.

"You knew that if someone else got a run in the team then it would be really hard to get your place back.

"So long as the atmosphere is good then it is a good thing."
