Manchester City are launching a bid for Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini.

Gazzetta dello Sport says City boss Roberto Mancini wants to stiffen his defence next season with the Italy international.

Chiellini is also regarded highly by Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, City are in the boxseat as they count on crisis club Juve needing to sell should they fail to qualify for next season's Champions League.
