Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart was handed England's captaincy for the first time in the friendly 2-0 defeat against Spain non Friday.
The 28-year-old has since expressed his pride on leading the Three Lions for the first time and revealed that he aspires to emulate the likes of Iker Casillas and Gianluigi Buffon, who are proof that goalkeepers can make great skippers.
He said: "Casillas has done it enough. Buffon has done it enough. They are two special talents.
"It was a special moment. But I've got to be realistic. Wayne's our captain, Gary's our vice, and they weren't playing in Alicante.
"I was very honoured to take the armband for the evening, but I know my position in the team and I try to maintain the same mentality whether I'm wearing the armband for my country or not.
"It was a proud moment, but we need to stick together as a unit and whoever wears it we try and push for each other."
