Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given says winning a first trophy will be a catalyst to a glory era for the club.

Ahead of their UEFA Cup clash with Hamburg, Given said: "It is very important to get that first trophy in the cabinet.

"Hopefully then we can kick on and have more success. After a such a long spell without winning a trophy, the first one is always going to be the hardest to get your hands on.

"Hamburg are a very good team but you know when you get to this stage of a major European competition it is going to be tough."
