Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given says Newcastle United No1 Steve Harper deserves England recognition.
Given and Harper worked together when the Irishman was with the Toon.
Given told the Evening Chronicle: "I don't see any reason why Steve shouldn't get his chance.
"We've got Joe Hart here at Man City and he is right up there of, course, while Ben Foster is also a genuine contender for England.
"People say Steve might be too old but David James was playing at the World Cup when he was 40 so that's not really an argument and hasn't seemed to alter the manager's thinking.
"All I would say to Steve is 'don't give up' because he deserves a chance.
"He's in form and he is playing in the top league in the world, so why not?"
