Yaya Toure says it is important that Manchester City progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League this season.
The Eastlands club have failed to get out of their group in each of the past two campaigns but kicked things off with a 3-0 away win at Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday night and goalscorer Toure feels the result is the best tonic for the club to show they intend to succeed in the competition.
"The last two years were quite disappointing for us, for the fans and for the club," he told Sky Sports 2.
"It's important for us to prove to the fans who love Man City that this year is going to be our year. Our most important target is getting through to the second round and showing improvement."
