Manchester City have approached Barcelona for Sergi Samper.

Sport says incoming City manager Pep Guardiola has recommended the midfielder's signing.

Samper is tied to Barca until 2017, with a clause set at €12 million.

Barca management are reluctant to lose the youngster and are drawing up a new contract offer for him to consider.

However, all signs are that Samper will leave this summer, either on-loan or in a straight sale.
