Manuel Pellegrini is hoping his Manchester City team can be three points behind league leaders Arsenal by the New Year.
The Chilean saw his side beat Swansea City 3-0 at home on Sunday to remain six points in arrears of the Gunners and despite writing in the matchday programme that he wanted to start 2014 on top, the City boss revised that goal after a seventh straight win at the Etihad Stadium.
"I can answer your question after we finish the two games we are going to play away," he said.
"I have a lot of trust in this team. We have to play six more Premier League games during December.
"We hope we can do it, it will be very important for us.
"We are six points behind Arsenal, that is too much.
"We will try to cut this, but if Arsenal continue winning it is not easy.
"It will be difficult but if you can't be top a good target for our team is to be three points behind."
