Manchester City remain hopeful of prising Roque Santa Cruz away from Blackburn Rovers.

The Sunday Express says City believe that a bid of more than £20million will win the battle to sign Santa Cruz.

Mark Hughes has already splashed £40m on Nigel De Jong, Craig Bellamy and Wayne Bridge. But City's current £18.5m bid for Santa Cruz has been turned down.

Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce and chairman John Williams have been adamant that the striker won't be sold in this transfer window.

But their stance will be put to the test again and the City offer, bankrolled by the club's wealthy Arab owners, could now top £20m.
