Former Manchester City captain Tony Book was shocked by England's snub for Harry Redknapp.
Book wrote in the Daily Star Sunday: "City's title win left me on a high - but I was on a low about Harry Redknapp's failure to get the England job.
"I'm a fan of Harry because of the way he gets his teams playing football. He would have been perfect for the job.
"But there's no doubt England will be well organised and hard to beat under Roy Hodgson.
"Roy is a real organiser and England will get stronger under his leadership.
"Yes, England are definitely in safe hands. I just wish they were Harry's."
