Man City heading towards Champions League success - Lampard

Frank Lampard is confident that Manchester City will one day hold aloft the coveted Champions League trophy.

The 36-year old midfielder believes the Etihad Stadium outfit have it in their arsenal to get the better of the top sides in Europe and eventually add UEFA's premier club competition to their list of achievements.

Lampard helped Chelsea win the 2011/12 Champions League title so is well-versed in knowing what it takes to conquer Europe which is something he feels City can manager.

"This is a trophy every big club needs in their collection and, the way City are heading, it is one that will happen at some point," he said.

"These sorts of games are the ones you have to win if you are going to go on and win the competition.

"There were many years when I was at Chelsea when success was very close - I think I've played in four or five semi-finals and also lost a final against Manchester United, so to actually win it in 2012 was extra sweet and undoubtedly the best night of my career to date.

"I'd love to City do the same and I think it's the club's next step."

Man City are next in action in the Champions League on Tuesday night when they host Catalan giants Barcelona.
