Man City fullback Clichy: Liverpool striker Carroll scares me

Gael Clichy admits Liverpool striker Andy Carroll "scares me".

Manchester City star Clichy helped France beat Ukraine 2-0 before watching Carroll open the scoring in England's 3-2 Euro win over Sweden.

Clichy, 26, said: "You can't deny Wayne Rooney's abilities, he's one of the best strikers in the world.

"But Carroll is a unique player - he can cause a defence problems on his own with his heading game.

"He will tackle like a defender where a defender wouldn't even tackle, he will bang his head against the post if it means scoring a goal, and not every player can do that.

"So, yes, given that, he scares me. It's like the English spirit - a player like Carroll shows the qualities of England and that's why we like English football, for the commitment, the desire. That's what he represents.

"Are England better with him up front? I don't know, we'll only find out after the Euros. But we saw that England managed to impose themselves in attack, they conceded goals but they were very dominant in attack."
