Man City fail with opening bid for BVB midfielder Ilkay Gundogan

Manchester City must up their bid for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

The Times says City could try and 'low ball' the German side and try and prise Gundogan away for less than £20m.

The report suggests that Dortmund would reject such an offer and could boost manager Thomas Tuchel's hopes that the German international would stay at Signal Iduna Park.

When asked about the potential transfer he said: "Am I convinced that he will stay? I don't really know.

"I can only say that once he has actually signed. I know what we can offer him and if that's enough for him to stay then so be it."
