Manchester City are planning a January bid for Sampdoria striker Antonio Cassano. Gazzetta dello Sport says Samp's sudden slide this season hasn't gone unnoticed by City chiefs, who are convinced they can tempt Cassano to leave Genoa in midseason.

Cassano has already urged Samp to open their chequebook in the winter market after admitting frustration over their poor start to the campaign.
