Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano admits the club are determined to break into the US soccer market.
The 2011/12 Premier League champions have almost confirmed plans to spend $100million on a franchise in New York City which would become the 20th MLS team.
Soriano told ESPN that City were eager to create New York City FC and play some beautiful football in the States.
"We are enthusiastic believers in the development of soccer in the United States," he said.
"We believe there is a market out there of passionate soccer fans in the United States and there is the opportunity to offer them good, beautiful football."
Soriano, who is the former vice-president and general manager of Barcelona, said the plan was mooted during his Catalan days but it wasn't until he came to City that things really started rolling along.
"The idea was too early at Barcelona (back in 2005) so it did not fit but I have followed MLS now for years, the growth has happened more and more and we believe there is much more to come," he added.
"The idea was on the table at City from Day One. My first priority at City was to get the club right but now we are very happy where the club is evolving commercially."
