MAN CITY DOWN UNDER: Toure - City eager to reach Real Madrid, Barcelona heights

Yaya Toure admits it is a target of Manchester City's to step up to the levels set by such clubs as Real Madrid and Barcelona.

As City prepare for Friday night's International Champions Cup meeting with Real in Melbourne, the Ivorian midfielder told reporters that his club is striving to create a similar environment as the savagely successful Spanish duo has enjoyed for so long.

"We want to reach that level of Real Madrid and of Barcelona," said Toure.

"The manager and the chairman are working very hard to look at players to bring into the squad.

"The most important thing is for the players here to do our best. To bring good players to the club you have to do well, and then they will come.

"A lot of it is about quality of player. We have some young players coming through as well so what we have to do is work hard so we can get to the level of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

"We need to do it for our fans who have supported us all these long years and we have to make them proud."

City defeated AS Roma 5-4 on penalties after it ended 2-2 at 90 minutes on Tuesday night with debutant Raheem Sterling and youngster Kelechi Iheanacho on the scoresheet.
