Manuel Pellegrini is confident that Manchester City have signed the 'right' player in Raheem Sterling.

City splashed out a whopping £49million to secure the services of Sterling from Liverpool last week and many are of the opinion that the Citizens have overpaid for the 20-year old.

However, Pellegrini most certainly does not agree with this view and stated that Sterling's performance against AS Roma in Melbourne on Tuesday night justified the club's decision to purchase him.

Pellegrini said: "He's a very young player with a lot of future. He has the speed that we don't have so it will be a different way of playing. I'm sure that he's the player we need in our team and that's the reason we bought him.

"Always for a striker it's important to score, especially to score very early in the game. He played just 45 minutes and worked with our team just a few days so I'm happy with the way he played."
