Manchester City are insisting on cash deals for their fringe players. The People says City are looking to cut the numbers in Manuel Pellegrini's squad but their reluctance to agree to loan deals for Matija Nastasic, Micah Richards, Scott Sinclair and John Guidetti means they will face a test of their nerve going into the final week of the transfer window.
But neither club has shown a willingness to meet City's £16m asking price.
Richards could end up serving the final 12 months of his contract with no takers on an £8m asking price.
But Newcastle, Sunderland and West Ham indicated they would prefer to take Richards only on a loan deal.
Sinclair is also attracting interest from both North East clubs but no offer has been tabled.
And Swedish striker Guidetti's hopes of a permanent return to Feyenoord have been wrecked after the Dutch club pulled out of a £4m deal on Friday.
