Nastasic has been a revelation for Manchester City in the second-half of this season.
He told the Mail on Sunday: "I discussed things in detail with Nemanja. He was very positive about City and about the Premier League, and his advice to me was to come here.
"He told me the tradition in England would suit a young player like me and that my game would develop very quickly playing in the Premier League. Everybody knows that if you come to England you will improve.
"It's true that Nemanja has won a lot but not the FA Cup. I am sure he is proud of what he has achieved, and I will be even more proud of this because it would be my first trophy that I will remember for the rest of my life.
"We are very good friends, as you know we come from the same place but I don't view it as a competition between us. If we win, I won't be going round to his house taunting him with my medal!"
