Man City defender Mangala: No excuses, I should be doing better

Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala insists his £40 million price-tag is no excuse for his inconsistent form.

He insists the price - making him the world's second most expensive defender - is not hanging around his neck.

"In the morning I get up and go to training, to fulfil my passion," he told the Manchester Evening News. "I'm lucky enough to be living my passion, and I want to improve above anything else. My transfer fee doesn't particularly bother me."

And he believes he will improve under the guidance of Pellegrini: "I think that every coach brings you something different," he said.

"Pellegrini's very strong in terms of playing a four-man defence - quite a lot of our training is based on this defensive plan, a four-man defence.

"When you play games against big teams in the Champions League, great strikers, training alongside quality players then I can only improve."
