Man City defender Mangala: My decision to stay

Eliaquim Mangala has explained deciding to stay with Manchester City.

The France international has vowed to fight hard for his place after returning from last season's loan at Valencia in a better frame of mind.

"I said I want to stay, that was my decision," he told the Manchester Evening News. “I know we have so many good quality players, but to win titles we want a squad.

“Last season was not a good season in terms of trophies as we didn't win anything so this year we want to win something.

“In football anything can happen, but finally I stayed at Manchester City, and that's good.

“I am involved in the group and want to be involved in all competitions we are fighting for this season.

“I want to help the team when they need me – even when I don't play I will support my mates and help them to be confident, to help in training.

“It is important to have good spirit in the team."
