Vincent Kompany says he cannot wait for Manchester City's Champions League campaign to commence.

City take on Italian side Napoli at home next week in their opening Group A outing before meeting German giants Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on September 27 and Kompany is extremely excited.

"Everyone from our squad is looking forward to playing Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in the Champions League," Kompany told Deutsche Presseagentur.

"We are especially looking forward to meeting up with (former City player) Jerome Boateng. Playing in the Champions League is fantastic.

"We all said right from the beginning that we wanted to test ourselves with the biggest teams in Europe. Now we are going to do so."
