Man City 1-3 Bayern Munich

Ribéry 7, Müller 56, Robben 59

Negredo 79

Manchester City where given a master class in possession football as Bayern Munich outclassed their hosts with crisp passes and swift counter attacks which City struggled to contain.

City fell behind after only seven minutes when Franck Ribery’s speculative effort from 25 yards evaded Joe Hart at his near post further calling into question the England keeper’s recent form.

The German’s continued to dominate for the rest of the first half and Manuel Pellegrini would have been glad to see his team go in at the break just a goal down.

An improved start to the second half indicated the home side might haul themselves back into the game and continue their record of never having being beaten at home in European competition by German opposition.

But defensive slackness from Gael Clichy allowed Thomas Muller to ghost past him, then round Hart for number two.

Bayern where now rampant and three minutes later Fernandinho was caught in possession on the half-way line and Arjen Robben took full advantage to again beat Hart at his near post.

Thomas Muller then hit a post before City rallied with the introduction of David Silva who set up Negredo for a sharp turn and finish.

When former City defender Jerome Boateng was dismissed for hauling down Yaya Toure finally the German’s came under pressure, but it was too little too late as the visitor’s comfortably played out the remaining few minutes.

For City boss Pellegrini he has now lost 8 of his 9 encounters with Bayern counterpart Pep Guardiola.
