Manchester City want to bring Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe north to Eastlands.
The People says Defoe, 28, has been identified by the Eastlands hierarchy as a leading summer target, with top-scorer Carlos Tevez likely to leave at the end of the season.
While City know Spurs will be reluctant to sell to one of their closest Premier League rivals, they believe a big-money raid for Defoe could tempt chairman Daniel Levy.
And City striker Craig Bellamy, currently on loan at Cardiff, is still high on the wanted list of Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, meaning a swap deal could be on the cards.
