Man City coach Platt: Mancini not threatened by Txiki, Soriano appointments

Manchester City coach David Platt says a front office shake-up isn't a threat to Roberto Mancini's position.

The appointments of Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristan as chief executive and sporting director respectively have been beyond Mancini's sphere of control.

But their Barcelona connection to Pep Guardiola has prompted speculation and got Mancini looking over his shoulder despite the protection of that new contract that would cost City £35million to break.

"We have needed a new chief executive since Garry Cook left," said Platt. "Ferran has come in and I would say that is a very, very good appointment from the point of view of the club now being settled. We've got someone who the owners are content with - and someone who Roberto is content with as well.

"You would expect any chief exec to come in, have a look at things and make whatever changes he wishes to make on the business side of things. If that means a new sporting director comes in, then a new sporting director comes in.

"The story that came out when Txiki came here was factually incorrect as far as I am concerned, yet it took on a life of its own.

"If this is what happens when you are champions then bring it on.

"Hopefully this kind of thing will double next season because we have won the title again. If it escalates when you win the league then we all hope it continues to escalate.

"I don't see it as much of an issue, especially where Roberto is concerned."
