Douglas Maicon's sale to AS Roma will add to the fortune Manchester City have saved in wages thanks to this summer's clearout.
The Daily Mail says Maicon's departure means they have wiped nearly £40m off their wage bill this summer. The Brazilian was on around £100,000 a week at the Etihad Stadium, as were Kolo Toure, Wayne Bridge and Roque Santa Cruz, who have all left the club as free agents.
It is estimated that Tevez's move to Juventus saved City £17m in wages and bonuses as the club looks to fall in line with new financial fair play rules.
