Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is ready to spend big on a new centre-half in January. The Mirror says City are primed to buy a central defender if skipper Vincent Kompany's injury nightmare continues.
Porto's Eliaquim Mangala and Benfica's Ezequiel Garay are two names on City's radar should Kompany's injury jinx continue to keep him sidelined.
Pellegrini said: "Vincent is a very important player for the team but when we started the season we had a squad which would help us if this happened.
"We have other centre-backs who are playing at the moment but Vincent is always an important player."
